After Changmin accidentally lets slip the fact that he’s gay to his friend- he still thinks Junsu got him drunk on purpose- he is then subjected to a series of blind dates, each of whom Junsu claims is perfect for him.

 

They are anything but.

 

On his most recent one, his date had picked out a fashionable, high class restaurant to go to. Once there, he had proceeded to order the most expensive dish on the menu for both of them and then remembered he’d ‘forgotten’ his wallet back at his apartment. After Changmin had irritably footed the bill, they took a taxi to a popular club with dancing, drinking, and distractions. His date immediately did all three, guzzling beer after beer before leaving Changmin alone at their booth; later he’d spotted him dancing very closely with one of the numerous scantily clad girls. At that point he’d given up in disgust and left quickly, before he was stuck with paying for his drinks as well.

 

Changmin swears off blind dates after that, claiming they’re bad for his health and that he is perfectly capable of finding someone on his own. At this point, really, he’s beginning to see the appeal of staying single for the rest of his life. Two weeks after his self proclaimed exile from the dating world, Junsu rings up, excitedly describing how he’s found someone perfect for Changmin- this time he’s positive.

 

“Min, I swear, you’ll love this guy. I met him at a club, he works there, he’s a singer and incredibly sexy. He’s perfect.”

 

His words are suspiciously familiar. The last time Junsu had said that, he’d actually joined Changmin on his date and talked more with Yoochun than Changmin did. He found them making out later, announcing his presence with an undignified squeak. But, he hadn’t minded them getting together- they’d obviously liked each other and still did, and he was glad someone was having luck in relationships. Even if it wasn’t him.

 

After Junsu pesters him continuously for the next day- Yoochun even chimes in occasionally- Changmin gives in. He reasons to himself as he gets ready that it can’t be too bad, even if Junsu didn’t offer much of a description beyond black hair, dark eyes, and just incredibly sexy (with an offended “hey!” from Yoochun in the background). He looks himself over once more in the mirror and sighs, wondering what he’s getting himself into.

Once at the club, Changmin finds a booth and sits, trying not to look overly nervous. Junsu and Yoochun find him ten minutes later, alone and sipping bottled water.

 

Junsu wrinkles his nose as he scoots in across from Changmin, pulling Yoochun along with him. “Water? How exciting, Min.”

 

Changmin frowns at him but ignores the jibe, taking another sip before he asks, “When’s this “perfect” guy coming, Junsu?”

 

Junsu glances at his watch and Yoochun replies, “Soon. He said he’s get here once he finished up his performance.”

 

Changmin look up from his water bottle and inquires, “Is he a good singer, then?”

 

Yoochun opens his mouth but the response comes from behind Changmin.

 

“A very good one,” the voice says, sounding amused. Changmin jumps slightly, swiveling around to see a man slouching slightly, one hand hooked in his jeans and the other resting on the back of their booth.

 

Changmin’s first impression is, “Damn. Junsu was right for once.” The other man is admittedly attractive, with carefully styled hair that falls over large, almost black eyes that dominate his face. He definitely, Changmin decides, gives off an aura of mystery and seduction. Changmin is almost intimidated by how unearthly he seems.

 

After he gets over his surprise he hastily stands, banging his knee on the table in the process. Eyes watering a bit, he sticks out his hand and smiles a genuine, crooked smile which Junsu had generously called ‘charming.’

 

“Hi. I’m Shim Changmin.”

 

He’s met with a bright smile that takes away some of his first impression as being cold and unapproachable. He takes Changmin’s proffered hand and responds in kind, “Kim Jaejoong.”

 

Changmin finds himself blushing and is unable to look directly at Jaejoong as he slides in next to him, though he can see him out of the corner of his eye. Jaejoong’s still smiling at Changmin, who thinks he can make out a faint blush on his face as well. Junsu and Yoochun make small talk for a while, explaining how they met Jaejoong (they heard him sing and were instantly captivated, deciding if he was single he would be great for Changmin) and what a great guy Changmin is (he’s cute, he’s young, he’s really a very nice guy). They then leave the two alone (to talk, Junsu says).

 

“So,” Changmin begins, feeling awkward. “You sing?”

 

Jaejoong smiles.

 

And the rest of the night passes in a blur of words and music and the feeling that finally, something is going right.
